Why Divorced?

Why were Pete and Jenny divorced? It was obvious they were still in love. We're they ever not in love with each other? I think it would have been better if they had reconciled instead of her dumping him because of the lies he told.

I assumed it was just because he was so focused on his job that he didn't pay enough attention to Jenny.

The old saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder". The grew fond of their absence.

It is one thing to be love, it is another to be married. It may be that they can remain friends, still feel a little something for each other, but they just could not make that day-to-day effort to remain a married couple/

Can't we all just get along?

reply

She may have been joking, but when Pete asks Jenny why they divorced she says "Because you're impossible to live with."

Being inconsistent is better than being consistently bad.

reply

Has to be because she's an irrational idealist.
I LOLed when she told him he couldn't come inside the house because he lied about giving kids money, and now she doesn't know him anymore...

true.

Veneration of Mark Twain is one of the roots of our current intellectual stalemate

Ummm..LOTS of people get along much better after they get divorced and aren't spending every waking hour together, getting on each other's nerves

I actually really liked their relationship in this movie. It wasn't the clichéd angry ex-wife, or the nagging wife. It was a more interesting dynamic they had
