Shaq's first block, LOL!

When Coach Nolte first shows up in Algiers, Louisiana (that was a joke, right? We were suppose to think the guy meant Algiers, Algeria?) they show a few clips of Shaq dominating a pickup game. After he throws down an alley-oop, they show this clip of a supposedly great block by Shaq where he sends one into the stands. But if you watch the scene again, you see that (1) the ball was well on its way down and (2) the ball was below the rim. So Shaq/Neon pretty much swatted a ball out of bounds that was a foot short of the rim. I just paused the movie here to comment, haven't yet watched it through -- so hopefully Coach Nolte teaches Shaq to catch the ball if it's an airball!

I assume Pete did tell him, because one of the blocks Neon makes in the real game aginst Indiana is a catch.

Being inconsistent is better than being consistently bad.

I thought that was kntentional to show that Neon doesn't know the rules of the game.

Yes that's what I assumed. "He's never been coached" as the guy said. He was totally raw and could slam it down but wasnt shall we say, fundamentally sound.

Algiers is a area in New Orleans. Shaq went to LSU which isn't super far from NO.

I just watched the block Lol! Totally not even close to a believable shot.

Sure, that looked stupid in 1994...but these days, players DO stupidly emphatically swat balls that have no chance of going in out of bounds. Sure, it gives the ball right back to the other team. Bit it gets you on Sportscenter, and players would MUCH rather than that than help their team WIN A GAME. Being a team player doesn't get you on Plays of the Week. Patrick Ewing never made Plays of the Week when he would simply tip a ball to himself, resulting in Knicks ball
