Never been to boston but do people REALLY sound like that

they all sound like people from NewfoundLand here in Canada. i could not stop laughing at how silly they sounded.

I'm from Boston and I've yet to find a movie/tv show where the accent isn't overdone. (even "Good Will Hunting" which, oddly enough, had Bostonians playing parts) The person I thought who got the accent almost right was Forest Whitaker's character.

yeah, i've never seen a boston film where they've gotten the accents right. everybody seems to think the boston accent is some kind of hybrid between the stereotypical lucky charms leprechaun irish accent, mixed with the new york accent.

the new Scorsese movie looks like it's got some pretty butt boston accents too. especially nicholson and martin sheen. baldwin's accent isn't too bad.

actually, funnily enough, the best boston accent i've heard (though a bit exaggerated) was Tom Hanks's accent in "Catch Me If You Can". Good Will Hunting comes in a distant second.

Anybody remember Holly Hunter's "Boston" accent "Once Around"? I saw it in Boston when it came out and the audience broke out laughing every time Hunter did it. Jones did a MUCH worse one here. I know a previous poster will disagree with me but I thought Matt Damon and Ben Affleck did it well in "Good Will Hunting". They were both from Cambridge (which neighbors Boston) so they spoke it naturally. I supposedly have it but can't hear it. Whenever I'm in NY or somewhere else people IMMEDIATELY guess I'm from Boston when I speak:)

Check out "Gone Baby Gone"
I think that movie had the most authentic Boston accent. (I live in Massachusetts by the way.)

Some do, some don't. Kinda like how not all people from Georgia have the southern drall.

Yes, what a stupid thing to say.

But not like this. I speak with a heavy Boston accent as do most people born and raised in my neighborhood, and I honestly can't name one good example in all filmdon.
