he lied to him at the end because at that point it didnt matter cause the angels werent going to help them anymore anyways.
shareTechnically there was an angel "with him" because they were watching over him in particular - the whole reason the 1 angel was at the game that night...in a way it was his way of saying "You're not alone, you have the strength you need to do this"...he just didn't tell him the angel (that he didn't know was) seen earlier wasn't going to pitch with him.
