And the Angels and Sox didnt play in the ALCS in the movie. It was a regular season game for the divison.

Either that, or it could've been a one-game tie-breaker. I don't believe the movie says whether it was the final scheduled game in the series, or a tie-breaker. But yes, the winner of the game was to be the AL West Champions (this was back in the day where there were only 2 divisions in each league, and only the winner from each division would make the playoffs).
