Why did Bugaloo shoot Birdie?

Because Birdie was making fun of him and didn't allow him on his team? Doesn't seem like valid grounds to kill someone. Seems like they threw in that ending just to get Birdie out of the picture and leave Kyle alone.

good question. well bugaloo knew about everything birdie did, killing flip, and trying to have kyle killed at the end of the last street game. bugaloo was down with birdie but it seemed he might be growing tired of birdie after birdie clowned him in the upstiars at the team meeting when he shoved him down, then like i said killing flip, and then trying to kill kyle, i guess bugaloo saw everything bad that birdie was causing and said this guy needs to go.

reply

could have done it a bit better i mean birdie made him leave his crew now your in a club some dude who you humiliated starts walking upto you in the kind of kill or be killed hoods these guys kinda livied in you wouldnt just sit there and look at him now would you
maybe birdie and that guy with the leather walking on a street corner at night you hear a voice sup birdie turns round BANG BANG BANG both dead

Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy

I thought it was kind of dumb for Bugaloo to shoot Birdie in a club in front of probably dozens of witnesses. I guess Bugaloo wasn't all that smart.

reply

I'd say it was because he got ostracised by birdie and was in fear of his life. Birdie was a dangerous bastard and wasn't scared of ordering death at whim. Bugaloo probably saw his chance to rid his fear by killing Birdie and probably gaining Kudos as a result of killing a gangster. When does witnesses matter when somebody like Birdie buys it... As far as I know nobody saw Tupac get killed... apparently...

simple..before the basketball shootouts when kyle tells birdie he's not running with the birdmen in the tournament, birdie says to bug 'you, your ass is gone, if i catch anyone talking to bugaloo your ass is gone to'' then bug shakes his head because he knowes what he has to do...basically he killed birdie before birdie killed him.

Because Birdie threatened to kill him after Kyle left Birdie's team.

Shhhhhhh, let everyone else continuing thinking too deeply about it.

If you have to title and author your quotes, they aren't worth quoting.

I think it is pretty obvious they were portraying Bugaloo as the classic mask of Thanos type character. The down trodden who finally had enough of being laughed at and punked around his whole life and finally lashes out in deadly violence. Did you see the look in Wayans eyes in that scene? He is a much better actor than he is usually given credit for (yea I know he is usually just a goof, but still). He may have taunted Flip in the beginning, in much the same way as any bullied person often turns to teasing another s/he knows they can get away with teasing, but when Flip was murdered he empathized with him in a very personal way, clearly drawing an analoguos parallel between Flip's life and his own. When Birdie killed Flip it made it easy for him to rationalize getting his revenge it that way, seeing it as retribution for his death and his own being punked by Birdie. Plus he knew that he could easily be next, so it was also preventive, but definitely revenge, he was through being trampled on and seeing others like Flip get it. As for him doing it in front of others, obviously he wanted people to see him do it, you could see it in his eyes and on his face: he was projecting status, saving face, whatever you like. He was proving to everyone he had no fear of Birdie, what you might call public revenge.

"Repent, Harlequin!" said the Ticktockman.
"Get stuffed!" replied the Harlequin, sneering.

reply

Plain and simple, he kills Birdie because Birdie tried to kill Bugaloo's friend since childhood.

Don't mind me, i'm only here to kill you.

reply

^and also birdie was gonna kill bug (scene when kyle gives back gifts and tells birdie he aint playing for the birdmen)...''you your ass is gone, if i catch anyone talkin to bugaloo your ass is gone to''

reply

Hehe -- it seems like so many people missed what a few of you pointed out -- that Birdie was threatening Bug. Bug therefore was backed into the corner, where it was either kill or be killed. That's the whole thing in the nutshell, in its most basic sense.

lol^ esactly

My thoughts were that he shot 2pac because of all the things you guys were saying about how he tried killing kyle and tried *beep* Kyle out of his scholarship to Georgetown and the fact he was always belittling Bugaloo about certain things and maybe he seen his best friend Kyle had an opportunity to leave the slums n make it big. After the tourney when he told kyle to throw the game and if not he was going to rat him out and not to mention Birdie tried to have kyle killed. Bugaloo did it because Kyle was his boy plain and simple.

reply

I think all the main points made are right.

1. To save his own hide.

2. To make sure Birdie never went after Kyle again.

3. He had enough of being punked.

what an idiot the op, ALLWAYS put *spoiler in the title

He deaded him because he threatened him when he said "Bug, you gone, and if I see anyone talking to Bug, you gone to". Everyone knows what that means.

So Bug most likely went home, had a moment, spazzed out, went up in the club and shot Bird in the chest. And I'm pretty sure Bug didn't make it out of that club alive.

People may say that the evil warlord is dead and that "there will be no witnesses" to his death in a crowded club, but there will be a couple who will live by Bird's word, dead or alive, and kill Bug in retaliation.

reply

He pushed him down in front of everyone

reply

I dont think Birdie meant he was gonna kill Bug when he said he was gone, he just meant he was not gonna be part of his crew no more. And Bug just merked him because he was sick of getting punked

I personally think it was retaliation of trying to kill Kyle, his best friend who was going places in his life---and of course his being bullied and made fun of by Birdie.

That's the impression I got from it too. By "gone" he meant out of the crew. At least that's what I thought all these years. I'd have to watch it again.

Rest in Peace Al Freeman Jr. An underrated talent and lovely spirit.

I came on this board to get opinions on exactly this. did birdie mean exile from the crew, or that he was going to smoke bugaloo? For years I thought he meant he was going to kill him, but after watching last night I could see how there is room for a different interpretation, although marlon wayans kind of takes it harshly if its just exile.

Well this is how I see it. It would have been a huge deal to Bugaloo. I assume he didn't have much family if any to care about him. He seemed like the type of person who was just tolerated and usually on the outskirts of the pack so to speak. Also he was a little guy which may have been the reason he was seen as a bit of a joke. So his inclusion in the group would have been EVERYTHING to him. It was as if his family was shunning him. This is the place where he finally felt he could belong, where he felt important and Birdie was saying that he was nothing to him.

I'm thinking if Birdie was going to kill him, he would have just done it instead of telling him.

reply

He killed Flip just for insulting him, so I always took it as a threat on Bugaloo's life.

reply

Bugaloo shot Birdie mainly because he was tired of his bullsh!t. He killed Flip, tried to kill Kyle and embarrassed and might have gotten around to calling a hit on Bugaloo himself, he did the one thing he figured would put an end to Birdie's crap...he got rid of Birdie.

Definitely an underrated performance from Marlon Wayans.
