Frost - Good guy or Bad guy????

I'm interested to know what viewers think of Frost? Do you consider him to be a good guy or bad guy.

On the one hand you admire him for his straight, no nonsense approach to detective work, his contempt and disregard for political correctness and his constant attempt to get the better of his pompous boss, Superintendent Mullett.

On the other hand his bullying of suspects, witnesses and even police employees is very disturbing and his unconventional methods and overriding of police procedure on his belief that he knows best and conviction that he is right is positively dangerous and in real life would lead to a string of people being wrongly convicted (as has happened).

Any opinions?

i suppose you could say he's a good guy who just goes about things the wrong way?

The really interesting characters are the ones who are a bundle of personal contradictions.

There's no doubt that Frost is good at his job, esp. when his experience and knowlege of human nature often helps him make accurate guesses about crimes. And then, he takes on the good-cop/bad-cop attittude with suspects which is a deep character flaw.

I think he constantly watches himself from going off the deep end; for each time that he is able to control the rage & personal vendettas, its a triumph for him.

I don't know, personally i think he is somebody who has seen what the world can do or what it can't and is reacting to it. OK, he bullys suspects, witnesses, and the police employees but this is the Frost that we know and love, if he changed would he really be unconventional, stubborn and "improvisable" Detective Inspector Jack Frost?

I wish real coppers were like Jack Frost. Maybe more criminals would be behind bars.

He's like Dirty Harry - without the .44 Magnum and the one-liner jokes.

His heart and motives are in the right place - he's great at consoling victims.

In my opinion, Frost is definitely a good guy. Yes he can be grumpy and difficult to work with at times, but his heart is most definitely in the right place. Take the episode "Benefit of the Doubt" when Mullett and all the other police officers, not to mention that Miss Redmond were all condemning DS Reid for attempting to take drugs on his shift (which, it turns out later, he wasn't) and Frost steps forward aggressively to defend Reid and to point out that for his war heroism and his valiant attempts to kick his habits he should be supported and helped not kicked mercilessly to the ground. This dspite him and Reid not getting off to the best of starts with each other. He stands up for what he believes in and often shows great courage in doing so.

In the same episode, there's also the subplot involving the girl who may or may not be his daughter. He really lets his tender side show and at the episode's climax he seems about ready to break down cryng.

As amorrice has pointed out, he is also sympathetic and understanding towards victims and young people. He is often rough with suspects/criminals but I reckon that's only because he is repulsed by the vile things they have done and for the lives they have ruined or made a misery. His chemistry with his fellow police officers and co-workers, especially his clashes with Supt. Mullett, are often humourous and give great depth and personality to his character.

So Frost is definitely a good guy in my book.
