When there is a term that they do not understand, they put unintelligible in brackets
Why do they not get somebody that speaks and respects the English language. I.e not an American
I have now seen them translate 'lorry' as 'laurey''

shareYes, I remember the absurd subtitles on the Region 1 DVDs! The person tasked with the job had never heard the word "aye." So every time "aye" was used, the subtitles would read "yeah" or "ah."
I had to shake my head at the many times that "[speaking unintelligibly]" was put in place of long phrases that the subtitler was not familiar with.

I don't know the process for creating subtitles. I suspect sometimes they use computers to generate subtitles automatically. If that is true, you will get some absurd subtitles no matter what the language or regional dialect.
