The novels

Do you have to read the original novels to watch the show?

Not really. The books and the series are different in key ways, although the cases tend to be similar. In particular Frost is a very different character. (The books are worth reading but I've found people who saw the series first aren't always keen on them).

I've watched up through Series 9, and I love it. I read the first book and loved that too. What I'm curious (and a bit afraid, to be honest) is about the prequel books by James Henry. I saw it at my local library, and I'm wondering if it's worth checking out. Or if it's nothing more than a cash-grab.
