How did this series last so long...

This show does not even hold a candle to Morse or Lewis... the series started off OK, but after a couple seasons, it was crap. The lines were so cheesy, Frost got OTT with the super-hero old-school cop and he just bugged the hell out of me.

I'm doing a marathon watch of the series and I find Frost so annoying. Also, his table manners are atrocious and I wonder why they have so many scenes of him pigging out. Starting from the episode after his home burnt down, too many scenes of him eating.

I think they also went the Morse route with trying to get him fixed up with a woman, but Frost is not the kind of person we want to see getting intimate. Sorry, but the guy looks like he smells terribly - this dude seems like someone with the breath of 1000 a$$es.

Then you have the hero scenes where this 4'6 man is chasing down bad guys. I'm watching the Private Lives episode - the one where the mother was a prostitute - and laughed as he chases the bad guy then spends what seemed like 5 minutes staring at the fireman's pole before he decides to use it slide down 10 floors. What was so funny was it seemed he took forever getting down. LOL

Oh yea, the dramatic moments. Like when Barnard died and we got 5 minutes of reactions at the policeman's party. And just about every scene when he discovers something...the sullen look, the pauses, oh dear.

And then the hypocrisy - why does he make a thing out of people cheating when he cheated on his wife and the only reason they did not divorce was she was dying?

I think all his partners were far more interesting that him... except that annoying woman trying to get a promotion.

I'm a sucker for punishment and have the entire series. I'm forcing myself to watch it - although it more for background noise.

Let's not forget about all the morality behind these episodes - drugs, homelessness, prostitution, ugh!

And the use of urban legends. Just saw the Benefit of Doubt episode in which he finds out he has a daughter. How did they solve the case of the boy who died after surgery even though the strict female doctor told his father he would live? The cleaner unplugged ventilators to plug in her vacuum and that has been the cause of multiple hospital deaths - just that night, they had 5. WTF!

Seriously, doesn't anyone read Snopes? LOL

Oh yea, this was caused by the greed of hospital administrators and budgets.

I don't recall 5 deaths in one night? I do recall a patient telling Frost not to let them put anyone in bed number 5 because people in that bed have been dying. The boy ended up in that bed and died. Then Frost leaves the room of a new patient in bed 5 and notices the janitor unplugging an outlet to make room for her vacuum. He then saves the day for that patient.

The earlier episodes are definitely the best. It started going downhill in Series 6 (1999), although there are a few episodes that I didn't like that much before then, such as "True Confessions" and "Not With Kindness" (both had anti-climatic endings). I love Frost though, he makes me laugh.

It got quite poor after series 5. The very best episode was 'penny for the guy. in series 5, the cat and mouse stuff with Mr Finch was top class and had elements of Columbo to it (even though we didn't see Finch committing the crimes we just knew it was finch and frost knew but he had to prove it)

Some of the later ones after series 5 were very weak indeed, it's like they weren't even trying anymore they knew it would pull in ratings so they got lazy with it.

I liked the 2002 episodes of Mistaken Identity, tbf.

I live in the U.S. so was not privy to the show during its original run. I really enjoy the show. I find it both informative and quirky (a la Columbo). Frost is a good detective and I like the little funny bits they add in like his love for food and dislike of his boss.

To me, it's a decent show. I've watched all episodes too.

i would have prefered it if they had not lumbered him with a dismal love life like morse - i found both of them rather boring with their endless fretting over some woman or other. i don't like it when they pile on the misery like that - i prefer it when they concentrate on solving mysteries and don't get too bogged down in the characters personal lives.

there are a few episodes i like, those that don't get too heavy. Keys of the Car is my favourite.
