I'm sorry but, I hate Bailey

He cheats on her and she stays with him, then one year later, he almost cheats on her again.

I really really don't like his character. The only reason i like this Show, is Love Hewitt and Chabert. Okay Actually all the girls. Julia is cool too.

I don't really understand all the hatred towards these characters? Yeah Bailey and Charlie were a mess as are most young men. Bailey was pretty bad with addiction but in the end he was critical to the success of the family's business. Charlie tripped and fell several times but he wound up being a wonderful person too. This was a drama and a drama is going to deliver plenty of problems. The writers continually had the characters misunderstand each other and many times had poor communication. It helped to deliver even more drama. We can all look from the outside and say they should do this or that, or say this or that. And that's part of what made the series successful.

I just started getting into PO5 and after I watched all of the first season I hated Bailey. Just his attitude and everything. The way he treated Charlie was unbelievable. When Kate died I didn't feel one bit sorry for him.

You're pretty sick, Chubbs.

I don't really hate any of the Salingers but I always thought Julia was the least likable. Ugh! She was always so woe-is-me for like the first three seasons. Justin is the only guy who made her likable. Griffin became likable only after he and Julia broke up.

Anyway, going way off-topic here but... yeah. I like Bailey.

Oh. And Kate doesn't die; she leaves town. Jill, however, does bite the dust(or rather, sniff it).

reply

Oh, yeah sorry I meant Jill. I couldn't remember what her name was. But still I didn't feel sorry for him.

A strange reaction to a person losing someone they loved. Oh well, most posters haven't even seen the entire series to at least see where all these characters wind up. Feelings like "I didn't feel sorry for him" are harsh so any future plots involving Bailey would probably be of no interest to you anyway and it's a shame. One future Bailey plot in particular was nominated for a Golden Globe and it definitely deserved the recognition. I'm not defending the Bailey character but I do adore all the five in the party, even including most of the periphery characters.

reply

I've seen only the first season and no I'm sorry the way the writers made him I didn't like him. He was so annoying and obnoxious.

We'll have to agree to disagree, I feel and felt completely the opposite. No one will ever convince you or I otherwise. I wasn't crushed by the turn of events but I definitely felt sorry for Bailey and Bailey and Jill's families. Bailey went out of his way to try and help Jill. His character is very driven, some would say a bit too driven, he continues that drive throughout all six seasons.

Still quite unusual to have no feelings about the loss of a loved one. Also, Megan Ward who played Jill was very good, even back then when she was so very young. I wish she'd do more work.

I think all the characters had the moments of being likeable and annoying.I would say Charlie was my favorite character even though he made alot of mistakes and Julia was probably my least favorite.

reply

i've only seen season 1 and most of 2 so far, but Bailey pisses me off. he sticks his stupid nose in everyones business and is an *beep* maybe i'll like him better as it goes on, but i doubt it.

reply

yeah Bailey is a busy body who likes to get his own way. it was great when he read Julia's description of him as a sex drive with legs

I'm gonna die of long hair!

Oh I see, you're not an actual fan of the series. I didn't think so.

That so-called "funny" alcoholic story arc was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. You're in the minority on this one.

We see his character take a drink in one episode and then 2 episodes later we learn he is somehow an alcoholic!
Uhhhh wrong, dead wrong. Either your memory is very poor or you didn't pay attention to the several episodes leading up to Bailey's intervention. It was not just two episodes later. There were many more scenes about Bailey's drinking leading up to his big fall in The Intervention.

Do you actually think that someone can't become an alcoholic in a few short months or weeks? Talk about fiction.

So it didn't win?
Party of Five won the Golden Globe for Best Series in 1996. It was nominated the following year (during said intervention). The ratings increased dramatically during those two years and the ratings stayed very strong through season five. You're still in the minority my Tool Time friend.

Cheers!

uhh i hated the guy ever since the end of season 2. when saint bailey gave up his college money to save the family restaurant!!!! lol yes it was a plot device to keep the bailey character on the show. but it was utter trash in the context of a show that was supposed to be based in reality, not fantasy.

reply

At times Bailey was an ass especially toward Sarah. I remember one episode where they were out at a party and she was having fun and Bailey was being ridiculous as if she had to ask his permission or something.

Loved the siblings overall and they each had their moments of being selfish like when Julia was working as a waitress at the restaurant and Charlie failed to side with her when she was dealing with some rude customers.

It got even worse when in season 6 he decided to give owen back to Charlie just so he could pursue his new dream of going to business school. First he wants the kid and wants to be a dad but the second he finds something new (for the first time he found something he really wanted - funny though, cause he used the same line to get the restaurant) he just leaves the kid behind.
