Original songs on the Region 2 DVD set

I just bought the season 1 dvd set from Amazon uk (Pal region 2) and I was expecting a lot of music replacement (as mentioned on the internet) and I was positively surprised that almost every original songs are still there (on the english track as well as the others).

I haven't checked everything but only the songs from the pilot seem to have been replaced, the rest is intact : Annie Lenox (Why), The Cranberries (Ode to my familly), and also R.E.M, James Brown, Marc Cohen... which I believe were replaced on the Region 1 dvd.

It's weird that no one mentioned it. And also why only the pilot was changed ? and does anyone know if season 2 is also intact for region 2 ?
I was also surprised because "Dawson's Creek" was also released by "Sony Pictures Home Entertainment" in the UK and had the same replacement songs as in region 1. Strange.

That's good news and bad. So many DVD's have replaced copyrighted music and then you see many titles in Europe and elsewhere somehow retain the music that was removed here in the USA. European rights are definitely different on many of these releases. Thanks for the info, I may be tempted to purchase the PAL discs just to see the originals in all their glory. With an incomplete DVD series it's still a depressing story for the series as a whole.

Yeah music rights in Europe are different, but there seem to be a lot of different factors, because very often the music is replaced just like in the US (Dawson's Creek, Roswell...) and sometimes not (Party of Five, Quantum Leap...) I don't know where is the logic in that, especially when the studio is the same.

Ok, talking about things that don't make sense, I just got Season 2 (Region 2)and most of the songs have been replaced !
At least season 1 is (mostly) intact.

Even stranger, though English speaking consumers won't have any interest in purchasing a foreign language dub. What it probably is, is yet another set of copyright laws in the country you're referring to in the dubbed version. Spain? France? Or? You said the versionS... plural. Do you have more than one foreign language dubbed edition? Or are you familiar with just the one you had happened to purchase?

Look at all the recent administrative deletions at this board. Hmmmm, strange how 'Thirdeyedmind' apparently killed his own account? Weird. Did he fall on his own sword or just lose his Amazon account?
