They replaced the original music?

Argh. I've been reading comments that they replaced the music. What a horrible era the 90s was for licensing issues. My all-time favorite show from the 90s was Felicity and they lost 80 percent of their original music. Can someone clarify is Party of 5 going the same route? The DVDs are pretty pointless to me now. I heard Dawson's Creek and The Wonder Years had the same issues. Sigh.

The problem plagues any television series from any era that contains a lot of copyrighted songs. Happy Days and WKRP are two more. The costs are astronomical to pay for all the copyright fees. In order to get these titles released they sacrifice the music. It's a painful loss. The only way to get the originals is via bootlegs and in the case of PO5, many episodes just don't look that great overall. Rock and a hard place.

Wonder Years hasn't even seen the light of day yet. That series is loaded with hundreds of songs and it's highly unlikely that it can get released with all the beautiful music that that series contained.

Hmmmm, an incredibly important addition to the information contained in this thread.

To be an angry teenager with all the answers, perhaps you'll mature one day... a quick look at your own posts reveals the ungrammatical.

"Me thinks" is actually methinks.

"middleage" is actually middle-age.

And that's that, the grammar lesson for the day.

Yes they did. I bought the DVDs and my favorite part (Cranberries-Empty) was changed to some unknown song. The original song made the scene powerful but with a different song it just seemed off.

The region 2 dvds have the original music for Season 1 (not the others seasons), you should get it.

One is better than none. I'll have to purchase that first season then. Thanks for the info on that. So many series suffer from the loss of their original selection of songs. PO5 has tons of perfectly chosen music, and now they only survive on old vhs tapes, hehehe.

Actually the pilot does have music replacement on the region 2 dvd. But I compared the other episodes with the region 1 dvd and it seems all the music is intact, expect for the pilot (don't know why).

You get to hear the Cranberries, Love Spit Love, Joni Mitchell, Annie Lenox... and all the rest. The original music for season 1 was really great when I think about it. So yeah, let's be grateful that 1st season is (almost) intact in region 2.

(and that season doesn't have the typical speed-up from the NTSC-PAL conversion, so that's also good news).

I've been watching Party of Five on Amazon Streaming and this is the first tome I have seen it. The lack of original music doesn't bother me because I don't know what I'm missing!
I understand where you're coming from, though. I bought Birds of Prey on DVD and every song was changed, including the theme! It made the show unwatchable.
My point being, the original music is only a big deal if you originally watched the show as it was broadcast.

Afraid so. The worst isn't from the 90s though it's WKRP, all the great music is replaced by soundalike crap.
