He was in the show and then just disappeared, they wrote him out as leaving but then never mentioned him again. Or did they mention him but i didn't notice? Someone told me the actor died but i mean within the show, did they ever say what happened to him? He never came back or was mentioned even for the finale or big family events/weddings or anything.

shareYes he did die in 2001 in real life but Po5 ended in 2000, 1 year before Carroll O'Connor passed away. He might have bee too ill to keep acting? Don't know. Still the character can be re-casted. Jason London was a recast so why not another character?

The grandpa had cancer and was getting chemo. I don't remember if they ever revisited him after the announcement, but they could have been leaving it open if they needed to bring him back for something.
share@justanicknamed Is correct. He left on Christmas Eve I believe. Charlie saw him as he was about to leave and he told Charlie that he had to leave because he had a chemo appointment the next day. He said it wasn't fair for them to know because he hadn't been a real grandpa. So the only one that knew was Charlie.
