I have never seen this show, but thought I would check it out anyways. Best Buy no longer carries it and I was told it was discontinued. Even Amazon has it listed as discontinued. I also found threads for petitions to release more seasons. Any ideas?
The market has quietly been drying up on those first three box sets. Quite simply poor sales is the reason they're disappearing. You can still buy those first three seasons at Amazon and possibly on EBAY but beware of bootlegs on EBAY, there are always thieves selling burned discs there.
Don't forget Amazon Stores, the sellers there have all three and they have the same guarantees as Amazon's own pages as well.
Season one - One storefront still has it at $35.55 others have jacked up the price since they truly are being discontinued for now.
The chances of getting legal releases of seasons four through six just keep getting scarier and scarier. They've never been released and may never see the light of day.
I'm even more thankful as every day passes that I snatched up my copies of the first three seasons as soon as they became available! As felbertmindfoto said, poor sales are to blame. Of course it doesn't help that an incredibly large amount of people (illegally) downloaded the seasons for free. And what gets me is that it's some of those same people who are complaining that the second half of the series has not been made available yet, all these years later. (Sorry, I'm just a little bitter as this was -- and still is -- my favorite drama.)
I figure that if they could put out the entire Ally McBeal series on DVD (original music intact), they can certainly afford to do the same for Party of Five. I don't care if I do already have the first three seasons, I'd be more than willing to buy a box set of the entire series. Who's with me?
I'd buy a series boxset as well. For a while they were blowing out the three seasons of box sets for only $19.99 per box so that was the time to scoop them up. Now it's probably going to be hard just to find them on any store shelf. Deepdiscount (a huge online DVD seller) has removed them from their site altogether, not a good sign.
Even though I videotaped every single episode from the third to the finale I still went ahead and bought a bootleg set since my tapes were scattered in boxes of hundreds of tapes. I've purchased all three DVD sets and I'll immediately purchase seasons four through six if they ever see the light of day.
It would be nice if the final 3 seasons of the show would be released on dvd, since it is not cool that only the 1st 3 seasons are on dvd but not the last 3.
I love this show very much, but I can't only buy 3 seasons. I'd rather have the memories of watching all 6 in my mind, than to only be able to watch the first 3 and not the last 3. It's worse than read half a book. Very sad that they couldn't squeeze out the last 3 seasons. The only chance I see is if an outside group like Shout Factory decides to release it. I really thought they were going to do it, as well as the show Ed, but no word on any of the rumors in over a year is probably bad news for both.
They're too busy releasing season 6 of Designing Women (after releasing one season of Mad About You and then screwing fans by giving up on it). (SIGH!)
Heck, even a classic like Family Ties didn't get the final 2 seasons didn't get released.
I won't buy anything else like that until the all of the seasons are out.
Ed is because of music rights, but it should have been solved by now.
They claim PO5 didn't sell, but they staggered the releases so long apart, I think some people gave up. I really think Party of Five could have made enough of a profit to warrant the studio releasing all of the seasons if they'd stayed on schedule or offered all 6 seasons in one set for hardcore fans and then sold the show in regular sets based on demand.
Season 1 was released in 2004 (way before dvds started to nose dive) and season 3 didn't come out until 2008. 4 years for 3 seasons. Idiots run a lot of these companies.
you can find all 6 seasons online if you search for it. Thank god for the internet, this is one of my all time favourite shows and I bought the 3 seasons on DVD, but this morons didn't released the last 3 seasons. Then they complain about piracy online.
I came here wondering about the last 3 seasons also. Just curious as to why they never even bothered releasing them. I agree -- they waited too long in between releasing each season. They also did this was another show, "Becker". Its been like 3 years in between the release of the first season and the 4th.
I guess I'll cut my losses, and turn my tricks at the magic show..
It's a fact. I was one of the people waiting years for the whole series to get a proper release instead of watching low quality versions but I understood why it was taking so long.
There was never any serious demand for its release. This is a strange show in that regard. Yes it was popular in the 90s but the ratings went on a a decline towards the end. The public was sick of the Salingers period. They tried to do that spinoff with Hewitt which was a major, instant bomb. When I saw the reaction to her show I knew PO5 would be over quickly.
It's a show of its time. Its extremely dated. I think that's part of its charm but if you'll notice, this show is never discussed anymore or put on any 'best of' lists.
