I wonder if the relationship between Charlie and Grace was sort of doomed from the start since the both of them had totally different viewpoints in life especially since she didn't want kids and seemed to despise being around children whereas Charlie wanted a family of his own. I think he was always in love with Kristen since that would be his only true love.
The relationship was doomed because Grace was a horrible human being, with completely screwed up priorities. Grace Wilcox was the worst kind of left-wing politician you can get, by using homeless people and the news media to try and run Salingers out of business, and for what? Because a restaurant has an obligation to make a profit and has every right to have dress codes and follow health code policies for it's cash paying patrons?
She's such a douchebag, and if it wasn't for the writers wanting Charlie to get a little Jungle Fever, Grace Wilcox would never have had a part in the show. She's disgusting in every way imaginable.
ImpendingDoom nailed it. Grace is the worst character in the show's history and while I understood the need to move on from Kirsten, this was NOT the direction they should have went. Bailey's issues this season are the only thing that save season 3. Had the show not went mainstream at this point it likely would have been cancled like it almost was season one. Perfect timing with this show catching on.
I think the series is brilliant even though unrealistic in spots but this Grace storyline almost killed it.
Jungle fever? I think that's a negative expression. The writers probably wrote that character in because of the things that were going on in the US at the time -- lots of racial tension, especially in parts of California. The things about Grace that I didn't like is she tried so hard to put on an air that she knows what it feels like to come from little means. Her family seemed well-to-do and she just wanted to go contrary to her upbringing.
It was a bummer that she jumped to conclusions about Charlie's situation and then found out he lost both his parents and assumed responsibility for his siblings. Anyway, I didn't think she was right for Charlie because she was too ambitious and head-strong.
