I know what you mean about the ending. I liked the series and if I remember (I've read the book years ago) is very close to the original text. I hated Rosie as much this time as when I first read about her and I wanted to slap Dorothea as much as I did then Lol. Someone said that Casaubon was not fully explored as a character as he is in the book...and in the book, if I remember, Dorothea comes to realise how she misjudged him (and his superior intellect) and made a huge mistake in marrying him, before Will said that his scholarly pursuits were pointless (I think she understands that herself in the book). Also, Will's background story is better explained in the book and it is indeed a shame that after spending (wasting?) so much time showing Lydgate's and Rosie's relationship, they did not make the most of Dorothea's realisation of her feelings and the final meeting with Will.
I'll have to go back to my book to see if the final chapter describes their relationship a bit better.
