Try poor ratings and a format that has been nearly done to death, and lets not forget about that infamous event (it's in the trivia section on this page).

They manufactured the situation that led to the murder. They knew full well they were putting that straight guy in an embarrassing position for a nation-wide audience. Society at large was not as openly gay friendly then as it is now.share
The producers set him up for years of mockery so they could have one mildly compelling hour of TV fodder. There would not have been a murder had there not have been a Jenny Jones Show.

I liked it when I was a teen because the show always had women on it in bikinis, but now looking back I realize they were doing that out of desperation for views. So no I can't say I'd watch it again.
I'm not really into talk shows in general anymore though.
