A show like Friends but featuring an all African-American cast already existed before Friends, it was called Living Single. So technically Friends is the white version of Living Single, no big need for inclusion in a show that's a copy of an inclusive show. If it were made today, it would still be a Living Single rip-off and therefore require exclusion in order to separate itself from the original, or it'd just be another remake of Living Single, so it would likely be inclusive, so depends on what the remake is aiming for.
No. Why? Not every situation — or sit com — needs to be evenly diverse.
There are millions of white people who only hang out with other white people. And if it happens in the real world, it’s fine to have in shows and movies.
Also, compare the ratings of Living Single and other all black sit coms similar to Friends. Friends blew them out of the water.
Half of them were female, some came from riches, some from poverty, some middle class, some Italian, some Jewish. Point is, there was enough diversity in the show for my taste. The closest thing to a person of color in the cast was David Schwimmer, and that was good enough.
The Creator of FRIENDS explained her stance on why she made it this way and basically said it was her vision and felt she shouldn't have had to apologize for it.. If FRIENDS were made today in 2023, it would be the most diverse group of friends you could imagine with a different guest Nationality every week.. White people would be working in the kitchen of the coffee shop they went to..
OP says: "If it were made today there would have been."
For the six there would be mixture of a black, a Muslim, at least two gay, one with a noticeable disability, five Democrats, one Republican, and none vaccinated for COVID-19 or any variants,
Oh, 5 would be vaccinated for covid and dumb Joey (who is now Latino) would probably be dating an anti-vaxxer and refuse to get vaxxed. But by the end of the show the rule of global law would be vindicated when Joey decides to do the right thing and get the syringe too.
Disagree. 😀
All were in their 20s the run of the show and like most in that age group historically feel invincible. Many of my co-workers in that age group sure do, most refused to get the vax until our company required it. Some quit, most relented.
Oh, I'm not talking about real life. Big media will toe the government line that you'll die without the vaxx. They'd use the sitcom as a morality play about the virtues of big pharma.
