You can't always trust everything you read online, but if true I'm not surprised. The movie got mixed to negative reviews from critics and wasn't that big of a hit in theaters if I remember correctly. The experience of working on it probably wasn't very comforting either, might explain why TVTropes also says that the rest of the cast feels the same way as well. I can imagine John Malkovich who was going to voice Professor Screweyes originally felt pretty enraged that he didn't end up being used in the final cut of the movie though...
Plus, it's not as if this movie helped Smith's career anyway, her biggest success is The Simpsons and As Good as It Gets...Besides those two it's mostly been minor roles on sitcoms and other movies...
