John Malkovich

Actor John Malkovich was originally set to voice the role of Professor Screweyes but dropped out because of disagreements with the animators' vision of the film. Upon the movie's release, Malkovich was a vocal critic of the project, arguing that the scope of the script was not fully realized and that the final product was "sub par, to say the least." To this day, Malkovich generally refuses to talk about the film. In a rare 2003 interview, Malkovich made a brief allusion to the movie, saying, "Good ideas go to die in Hollywood. I worked on an animated movie about dinosaurs in New York once. It was completely bureaucratized. They took something that had art in it and put it in the laps of people that only cared about the bottom line, and look what happened." In a later portion of the interview, Malkovich went on to say, "Yeah, projects like We're Back: A Dinosaur's Story—they just make you sick. That's why I left this town. It's all about the money, the bottom line. It's disgusting."

Wait, he knew it sucked from the getgo and stayed out of it? Smart man.

I'm curious to know what he thought the movie could potentially be that would have made it so much more amazing and artistic.

I don't know, I still love the film, as it was very close to me as a child (and a dinosaur fan ^^). I'm sorry that John Malkovich feels that way. :(

Yeah... he might be a good actor, but with no background in animation, I don't see how he thought he could give any insight on what the animators could do to improve the movie. And really? That movie is why he "left" Hollywood? Funny, that movie came out in the 90s, and he was making movies in the 90s even after We're Back came out. So much for "It's all about the movie man", eh John? Seems to me he was all too happy to continue working for the Almighty Dollar, but still felt he could criticize all involved with the film, while sitting on some fat paychecks. It sounds like the OP is trying to be cool like John Malkovich, but just coming off sounding like an entitled fanboy with a hard on for Mr. Malkovich. Seems to me both had a case of sour grapes when it comes to this movie.

I loved the movie as a kid, and still do as an adult! They were better off casting Kenneth Mars as Professsor Screweyes in the end! At least he was capable of giving his characters distinct voices, whereas John Malkovich can only play John Malkovich.
