Why on earth is this rated so low?

I know it's not a masterpiece of film or whatever, but who comes onto IMDb and is like, THAT *beep* DINOSAUR CARTOON THAT WAS MADE IN THE NINETIES... WHAT A PIECE OF *beep* I GOTTA RATE IT LOW RIGHT NOW
Actually, knowing the patrons of imdb...

I was wondering the same thing! I just watched it on Hulu and realized that I had forgotten how awesome it was! Dinosaurs were basically my obsession as a child, so it was definitely a blast from the past. I almost cried at some points! It's so beautiful: the wishes, the parents, the music, the little kids, the dinosaurs, the bubbles, etc. I just rated it 8 out of 10 hahaha.

It deserves a higher rating. It's much better than the current Pixar crap.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

This had recently gotten a 6.0 rating. I guess people saw my list of under-rated films and decided to give the film a decent rating. In fact several films on my list had received 6.0 ratings during the past few weeks.

I liked this movie as a kid but it hasn't held up well for me as an adult. Watching it now it's just a mess, there's too much going on in such a short period of time, the tone is a bit off, the messages just are not executed well enough to make an impact and don't mesh well wit each other in the grander scheme of things. The score's not bad though, and the animation is pretty good, and so is some of the voice acting( John Goodman for example gives it some much needed heart here and there and provides some decent laughs). I think a 6.0, it's current rating, is fair enough, I'd rate it lower but hey that's just me.

I rate it 8/10. It's a movie from my childhood. I own the movie on VHS and the score on CD.

I actually think the rating is spot on here. 6 out of 10 (which is what I gave it). I personally love traditionally animated films (not todays CGI ones) but this one certainly falls short of greatness. Some of the art is great while some of it looks cheap or rushed, and the story and feel of the movie is all over the place. The score is great though. As you can see it has four directors and that's probably why it's a decent but inconsistent film.

Oh, maybe it could be because it's a terrible movie.

Why I hated it:

- way too over the top and silly for anyone over eight years old.

- The characters are boring cliches like the flawless heroes (the dinosaurs), cute kids, evil scientists, the little bird outcast who wants to be accepted etc. Love John Goodman but even he can't bring life to poor material.

- It's just a collection of random scenes with no narrative cohesion. Even for a kid's fantasy film, there's no internal logic and feels like the writers were just making it up as they went along. (It's a story with aliens, talking dinosaurs, two kids who don't seem shocked by dinos talking and evil scientists with magic powers?)

- Too much cheesy schmaltz like the dinos being brought back by the kids hugging them and the two kids kissing. Ugh.

- Bland animation.

- For a story about dinosaurs being brought to life into the present day, very little is done with the premise. Instead, the writers wasted a lot of time on the subplot with the two kids in love, unfunny scenes with the clown and setting the finale in a carnival. Why even fit dinosaurs into this story if you're not going to use them creatively?

To the poster who said this film is better than Pixar: let's just say we're going to disagree. Even the worst Pixar film (which IMO, is Cars 2) is light years better than We're Back!
