what the hell was on Pearl's head?

There's like either a bald spot or a discoloration on the top of her head; does anyone know what it was?

In the book, the real Toby (Jack) describes Pearl as having a bald spot on her head. It was just a nod to the book. =)

LMAO, I kept rewinding it! I was like, IS that a bald spot?
But then it kept changing forms, so I thought it was
like a little flower or something on a hair clip that
she really liked and always wore

I noticed that bald spot on her head too and wondered WTF was up with that..
