Okay, "Sliver" was by no means a classic. It essentially took a good Ira Levin Book and turned it into a pulpy, soft-core piece of porn (Think "Caligula" without the fisting!!!). But having said that, it does have ambience to spare, a solid rock/techno score and that really neat room with all the hidden cameras.
It should be released on DVD by now, but until then, I'll enjoy Brian De Palma's even better film, "Body Double".

Damnit, how much longer must we wait for this to be on DVD. Even Sharon Stone's straight to video flops have made it so why not "Sliver" Even though i am in the minority, i consider this to be a great film so a DVD release would be just fantastic.
shareYes I agree -- this is long overdue for a DVD release. How can they justify releasing DVDs like UHF and Leonard 6 when this particular movie stars a major actress and somewhat interesting plot. I personally have the laserdisc version and have transferred that to DVD for myself, but of course it's not as good as a real DVD transfer.

I was building up preferential database ratings and this movie came to mind in being unique, and the fact that I bought the sound-track so I ran a search and... Now I'm here to find out what went wrong. Without a doubt the most diverse, varied and "jumpin" soundtrack ever put onto a single CD. Carly's Loneliness - Enigma, Carly's Song - Enigma.... These songs were never released on any other CD by Enigma. Move With Me - Neneh Cherry took my 15" speakers to a new low. Oh Carolina - Shaggy, road trip song for the nieces... Pounding beat music, flagrant acid rock, haunting melodies, absolutely an all time favorite of mine. It rarely leaves my deck to this day. It's still current and a classic.
shareI have concerted a poor quality VHS version (recorded from tv) to dvd. It's better than nothing though. Sliver has a link to good memories from my youth and I would very much like to see a dvd version of this.
shareI toatally agree not the best film in the world,but definatly deserves a DVD release. Who's door must we beat down to get it on DVD. Not to mention like other erotic thrillers such as Unfaithful chicks love films like Sliver I'm told there a turn on in a naughty school girl kinda way.

(I have it on Laserdisc,but not quite the same,huh?)...When is Paramount gonna finally release this one, instead of churning out not very interesting older stuff like "Bug" or "Lifeguard"?...I hope the delay is due to the search for extras we might enjoy watching after all this waiting time...Anyway,we'll keep on waiting (anything else we can do?)

Basic Instinct 2 hits theaters on March 10th 2006, and March 7th 2006 is a Tuesday, you would think Paramount would jump the gun and release this bare bones on that date as a tie-in to the Basic Instinct 2 sequel. From a marketing standpoint, it makes complete sense for them to do it if they want to make money off of Sliver on dvd.

The reason this film isnt on DVD is simple. Its rubbish.
shareI think the reason Sliver is not on DVD yet is because of music licensing issues. This movie had an insane amount of songs. Like 30 or 40, easily. The soundtrack doesn't begin to have them all... Many of the groups were obscure and the rights are probably in limbo. It's a decent movie, but Basic Instinct is better. Carly was a weak character. Catherine Tramell was much stronger.
sharei would love to see this on dvd. a special edition direcotrs cut. with making of, comentaires, music videos, and more also a new alternate ending liek it was on the book. and so much more.
they could do wonders withthis dvd. an also when this movie cmae out it was so powerful and so mamaxzing that rented it so many times. thsi move is alot better than basic insinct .this was unearthly liek watching someoen from a third wolrd with al the music and the love wow.
It is now scheduled for release upon widescreen DVD (unrated) on March 28, 2006.
