Hot damn. Thank you so much. I've been looking for this for YEARS.
shareHas anyone purchased a copy, yet? I'd love to have the workprint. What exactly do they mean by the "text and time-coding" line in the description?
I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO...SCARED!!!
They mean that the version carries a time code at the bottom of the frame as well as occasional onscreen text.
Who wouldn't tittybang Jessica Alba right now?
That's so neat
Someone should purchase this and post on youtube :)
Does it contain the original ending?
------
Wait a minute... who am I here?
Yes. Quality is poor, but definite nice to see this version!
shareTalked to someone who knows someone who knows someone who saw this version at the infamous L.A. screening in March 1993, and he actually loved it. Said it was much better than the theatrical.
This guys supposedly liked the original ending, with Carly crossing over to the dark side. The only thing that he said the theatrical version did better allegedly was the opening death scene. In the original version, it's a maintenance guy who accidentally stumbles upon the hidden camera feed behind a light during a repair job. He supposedly goes into the elevator shaft to investigate, then is killed by falling object that decapitates him. Then I guess you see a glimpse of someone in the shaft above stepping back into the hallway, and letting the door close.
In the theatrical version that we all saw, Naomi Singer gets thrown off the balcony instead. If this is true, this opening would make more sense, since everyone keeps telling Carly that she looks like Naomi throughout the movie. At least, we have a frame of reference.
SPOILERS
I just wish Joe Eszterhas could've made the motives for killing the various victims clear. The way I understand it:
1. Naomi was killed because she knew about the cameras but had ordered Zeke to stop it. Zeke said he would do so to keep her from turning him in, then killed her instead to shut her up.
2. Vida was killed because she could link Zeke to Naomi.
3. Gus was killed because he was on his way to Japan and would certainly see technology there that he would recognize in the building - exposing Zeke. Plus he probably had gossip, as well.
4. In the original version, the maintenance guy dies because he discovers the bugged light fixture.
Anyway, I would love to see the workprint just to see if it's as better than the original version as they say.
I purchased the workprint from that aforementioned website. Honestly, the theatrical version, despite it's many flaws, is still much better than the workprint (original) version. There are actually quite a few differences between the original workprint version and the theatrical version. First off, Zeke is the killer in the original version, not Jack. There are a few scenes in the original version that were cut out of the theatrical version, and there are several alternate scenes with different dialogue as well. It's obvious that the production of this movie was a complete mess. I heard that the director actually was putting the final touches on the film just 2 weeks before the theatrical version was released lol. The ending in the original versions is so out there that it doesn't even make sense. It originally ended with Carly and Zeke getting married on top of the sliver building and then cuts to a scene of them flying a helicopter into a volcano. Lame ass ending with the dumbest dialogue lol. I would still definitely recommend getting the workprint version because there are definitely a number of alternate and deleted scenes in the original version. Also, the music is all the same, however in the original version, the music is switched in different scenes. For example, the first sex scene between Zeke and Carly. In the theatrical version they used Massive Attack's "Unfinished Sympathy." In the original version they used Enigma's "Carly's Loneliness" for that scene. But anyways, if you are curious about the original version I would definitely get it. Be forewarned though that the quality of the video is pretty bad. It's still watchable though.
shareDoes that version have a different opening credit sequence? I wonder why the workprint hasn't made it's way to the torrent world... NOT that I am condoning illegal downloading.
shareTimBur77,
Yes, the opening sequence in the workprint is COMPLETELY different than the final movie version. The credits are similar but the opening scene doesn't involve Naomi Singer at all! Instead, a maintenance worker gets killed in the elevator shaft.
Downloading something that will never be legally available is a victimless crime. Personally, I think it's FAR more criminal when people are selling DVDs of workprints. That said, there's several different downloads of the workprint of "Sliver" available here:

thanks for the heads up. I totally agree with you about people selling workprints....
quick question: all of the workprints on bolt.cd say they require extraction with 7zip
i downloaded 7zip for Mac and still cant get the archives to open...
ive also tried UNrar and whatnot
any suggestions? Ive been dying to see this version since I was like 15 years old....
thanks,
Jared
Hence, the whole reason why it's easier for some people, like me, to just buy the workprint dvd lol. Call me old fashioned, but I like to put an actual dvd in an actual dvd player and watch it on my television lol. It's not like Paramount is losing money if someone sells a copy of the workprint. Paramount isn't doing anything with the workprint anyways lol. Besides, anyone who would be interested in the workprint in the first place has already purchased Paramounts official dvd/vhs which is available. So, I don't see how Paramount would be getting screwed out of $ at all. Workprints are never available commercially to the public, so how else are people going to see it??? You either have to download it illegally or purchase it illegally lol. To state that one is worse than the other seems pretty silly to me.

Which one? (don't bother posting a link, just give the name of the site).
Watching the official release on TV right now. Even if I didn't know Esterhaz was involved with this, I would still be able to tell ; his grubby fingerprints are all over the direlogue.

I´ve just found it on the internet! Use Google. I am downloading it, can´t wait to see it!
shareWhat site is it? I tried downloading through Rar files, but the site I was downloading them from didn't have the final part and I haven't been able to find a single torrent of this!
