Gus Hale

Well in the orginal script and cut of the movie (workprint) Zeke was the killer and there was a scene where, through the tv monitor, we see Zeke breaking Gus's neck. When they went back and changed the ending of the movie to make Jack the killer, the scene had to be omitted, of course. I really recommend getting a hold of the workprint version of the movie. There are so many differences between the two versions! I think that it was always implied that someone had killed Gus. I don't think we were to suppose to believe it was just an accident.

In the book it was Pete (aka Zeke.)
He used a spare shower tap handle to hit him with so that it would look like he fell and hit his head on the tap.
