Unrated Version

I have seen a couple topics about the cuts and additions between the heavily cut R-Rated theatrical cut and the unrated version. Can anyone please give me, I am begging you here, a comprehensive list of the additions to the unrated version? Thanks to anyone out there who can help me.

Sorry to disapoint you, but there was virtually no difference between the theatrical cut and the unrated version. Both have been previously released on VHS.

The unrated version simply had wider shots of some shots in the sex scenes that became close-ups in the R-rated version. For example, I remember one shot where Stone sits on Baldwin's lap in a chair that in the theatrical cut was cropped from the shoulders up, whereas in the Unrated version the exact same shot is used but you see their whole bodies and Stone's gyrations. While there may be an insert or two I didn't catch at the time, the run times are the same.

The talks of cuts and additional footage stem from the very troubled making of the film. There was an accident when the 2nd Unit hellicopter crashed on a volcano trying to take shots for the original ending (the real life story of the crash was once optioned as a TV-movie, but I don't believe it ever was made). Supposedly the footage survived, but was never completed in post and I don't believe the actors never even filmed their portion of the scenes.

Besides that, like most big-budget Hollywood films, the script was a work-in-progress as they shot and there were extra scenes that were filmed and not used but portions of which appeared in the trailers. This happens all the time, as trailers are usually made long before the film has finished production. It is doubtful any of those scenes were ever even completed (edited, sound, etc.).

Hope this helps!

I bought and watched the DVD last night. The only thing I really noticed that was different was when Zeke is in the chair and Carly sits in his lap. He sticks his hand in her shirt, rubbing her breast. I haven't watched my VHS in a long time, so I can't be of much help. I do know that my R-rated VHS is 106 minutes, and the Unrated DVD is 107 minutes. My only complaints about the Unrated DVD are:

--no special features
--no trailer(s)
--no inserts
--not a big deal at all, but some of the subtitles read "Carla" instead of "Carly"
--the Lords of Acid song (one of my favs) was taken out completely

Anyway, I've always loved this movie, ever since I was a kid (13). I don't know why a lot of people are so against it.

Black man! Black man! Where did you come from?

I personally do not care if the DVD will lack soecial features, the fact its finally being released is good enough.

Sounds like a rush job to me though to so many fans wanting this movie to be on DVD finally.

I remember back in 93 seeing a trailer to the movie and in the trailer they were having sex in an elevator but that never actually made it into the movie. Is that seen in the unrated DVD version?

"the Lords of Acid song (one of my favs) was taken out completely "

So wait, was a scene that included the song completely taken out, or was the soundtrack re-arranged/edited for the dvd release?

"Why would you do this to us, dad?" "Because you are CRACKHEADS, children."

Actually I just compared the "R" Laserdisc version to the "Unrated" DVD version.

The main difference is that the aspect ratio is correct for the LD (2.35:), as the DVD version is slightly cropped on the sides (? 2.10:1 ?)....

and on the LD the scene where Zeke and Carly start making love while watching themselves on the CCTV, the Lords of Acid song is playing, but on the DVD, it is replaced by an instrumental version of the Enigma son.

Also, the scene where Naomi is walking outside of the elevator, the DVD version is stretched, so she looks taller than she actually is, and the LD version is the regular image, not stretched.

I think there are also some sound mixing and slight edits, but in terms of nudity and what not, it seems the exact same.

P.S. I found the image to have less print damage on the LD version than the DVD version. Compare the scene where Carly is about to meet the relator, and she looks up at the building, and the scene where Jack chases Carly, and she gets away, clearly, the LD image is better.

I remember when I first saw it, the sex scene where Baldwin's on top of Stone on the bed was shot from a distance above but I've now seen a version where the camera spins round and goes close up.
I love that scene.
