KANDINSKY

From what I can remember, it was a two sided painting by Kandinsky. Can you or anyone recall the title of that piece/pieces? I think the dark side was referred to as "chaos" but I can't think of the other.

"Flan" (showing them to Will's character) stood there and flipped the paintings back and forth repeating their names.

Any help with their names would be appreciated

A Kandinsky is always painted on two sides.

I don't think they were the names, but Ouisa said something like "We flip it around every now and then to shake things up a bit". Chaos, control, chaos, control.

There is no such thing as a double sided Kandinsky.

That's not really the point.

However, I know for a fact that the "geometric, somber" side is actually one of Kandinsky's paintings. The other side could be as well, I don't know. It was probably just Guare's idea to slap them back to back like that.

there was another painting on the wall that looked like a jean dubuffet. this is the mostly white one w/ the drawings. they never talked about it, it was just in the background.

I believe the 2-sided Kandinsky was not an actual Kandinsky, but an imitation created especially for the movie and destroyed immediately following the movie. I dont remember if I read that in the DVD's special features or the liner notes.

I think the Cezanne was an imitation too, but I dont recall.

the kandinsky painting of the circles is hanging in the permanent display at the guggenheim in nyc. it is not double sided and is titled, "several circles".

We all know that art is not truth, art is a lie that makes us realize truth.

I also believe there was a Joan Mitchell painting in the gallery scene (did you notice Chuck Close?)
