what did will do in this movie that made him so gay?

His character was a smooth talking con artist who preyed on those victims who were both trusting and gullible. In one scene he was standing outside an apartment building in the rain and a young white man invited him inside (yes he was also gay)this person was intelligent, educated, somewhat affluent and was the person who taught the young black man how to basically win friends, influence people and earn their trust. The idea that they had sex was implied only and not shown on camera. Will Smith's character even learned how to speak english like an intelligent, educated person and to use the proper etiquette and mannerisms to insinuate himself into the world of wealthy, white people. And for a time it really worked until he was exposed by the affluent couple played by Donald Sutherland & Stockard Channing. What comes around goes around!
And in a related story, I remember years back when this movie came out in 1993, I read an article in Premiere that told how Will Smith consulted with Denzel Washington about portraying a young, gay con man. Denzel is reported to having told Smith not to kiss a fellow actor on screen because doing so would hurt his box office potential and future stardom in movies! Anyone else read this or have any opinions?

In reference to the Denzel Washington remark, I feel that at that particular point in time, the advice he'd given Smith was on point. Indeed, only in places like New York and San Fransisco was homosexuality accepted and not considered a major taboo. Gay bashing was highly acceptable in the media,especially on major networks, during that time. If Smith had done the movie in the year 2000 and in more recent years, he could have done the kiss.
As far as his English goes, I feel that his being young attributed to his slang. The very same slang - the now ten year old slang - that white youths, wealthy or not, haphazardly try to reprise today.
