In the 'Did you know?' section of this film, they should mention that this film would never had been made if Stockard Channing wasn't cast as Ouisa. She starred in the Broadway version and the playwright, John Guare stipulated that if the play was adapted to a film, Stockard Channing had to reprise her role. No Stockard, no movie. Period. That's kind of one of the most well-known things about this film.

Yes. She is that good.

And so glad he stuck by that stipulation.

Meryl Streep doesn't have to be in every movie.

And she's not the only good actress out there.

Stockard is amazing in everything she does.

I do like Meryl (well, who doesn't, though?), but Stockard is beyond mesmerizing. I fail to see that in any other actress. Noboby would have gotten through this movie without her; Will Smith die-hards included.

I've been blessed to see her several times live and have met her 7 times so far. She actually knows me by name.

I am glad that Streep didnt get this one.

I don't think that the play holds up, but Channing is wonderful.

That's interesting. Hardly surprising, as Stockard Channing is phenomenal but it is nice to hear that that happened. Too often it seems those kinds of deals aren't honoured.

I think it's interesting to note also that the studio insisted that only Will Smith could be Paul, but the playwright got to pick the director. It's an interesting example for Hollywood deals and negotiations for sure.
