I don't understand why people thought this movie was so good. I mean I've seen a lot of greats, but what makes this one so good? to me it was alright (I'm actually still watching. I just got to the part where Stockard Channing just mentioned the title of the movie)
You must not be able to read. ashleyxr said he/she didn't know why it was good, so he/she doesn't have an opinion why other people like it so much. He was basically agreeing with the O.P. He simply doesn't get what the praise is about either. What more is there to say and what the heck is wrong with voicing your oppion on a message board? BTW you're not going to like my answer either. I agree with ashleyxr and I don't get why people think it's that great either.
"Love is patient, love is kind, love means slowly losing your mind."
This movie was good because Will Smith was in it. Hands down. I mean, without him, this movie would have been terrible. J/K.
Some people like it, some love it, some (like yourself) think it was alright, others hate it. We don't have the same opinion.
I think it's a good movie because it is so intelligent and just thought-provoking. And so new. And by new, I mean, it's different. I haven't seen a movie like it yet.
The movie was awful because Will Smith is a horrible actor, period. The film has many layers, but Smith was miscast all the way. The movie is not overrated, Smith is--I cringe when he's on the screen.
Much has already been written about the movie and the play. Did you read the Frank Rich NY Times review of the play? You can look it up, but you my have to register. Start there, read it, and let me know if you have any further questions.
From Frank Rich: "For the author and his heroine, the challenge is to hold on to true experience in a world in which most human encounters are bogus and nearly all are instantly converted into the disposable anecdotes, the floating collage scraps that are the glib currency of urban intercourse."
For me the movie was pretty dull until the last third when Will Smith drops his fake persona, and is just himself, begging for help from the wealthy husband & wife. That made the movie for me .
The movie was very uneven for me. I think it would have worked better without the need to be funny.
Stockyard Channing's Ouisa is the reason why I would tell people to see it. Her arc from a wealthy woman with nothing real in her life to an actual person was touching. She lets the facade down, finally.
Will Smith was miscast. We're not supposed to "like" Paul, but with Smith's performance I didn't feel any sympathy.
