Wow, I'm really impressed
I just watched this movie for the first time in about ten years. When I was younger I didn't think much of it, preferring Alfonso Cuaron's gorgeous "A Little Princess." But on this most recent viewing, I was really struck by how incredibly well-done it is. It's one of the most atmospheric movies I've seen in a long time - the music, the lighting, the cinematography are all really haunting and beautiful. And the kids do a much better acting job than I remember.
I think John Lynch's performance was fantasic - understated and profoundly sad. And the glorious Maggie Smith was, as always, in top form.
Anyway, I was just delightfully surprised by how much I loved the movie this time around, and thought I'd share with everyone.
