“Edward Scissorhands” score used in trailer for this movie.

One thing that I've found very odd is that the trailer for this movie uses music from the score of Edward Scissorhands.  I suppose it's an obvious enough thing to suppose that at the time they needed to have a completed trailer to advertise this movie, that they didn't yet have the score finished for this movie, so they borrowed music from another source.  But why Edward Scissorhands?  As far as I know, there's no other connection between these two movies.  Different composers, different companies, different everything.

I'm not sure of the specific reasons they would have chosen to use it in this case, but it does seem to be popular for use with other things than the film it directly relates to. Off the top of my head, IIRC they used it for the 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' trailer too, and I think it was also used for a perfume advert.

yupe, there is.

Both movies comes from the same screenplay writer Caroline Thompson. She also wrote screenplay for another Tim Burton's movies such as The Nightmare Before Chistmas and The Corpse Bride.

And from her imdb profile I found that he dated Danny Elfman, the man who composed musical score for Edward's Scissorhand.

A lot of the time, there is NO connection between the trailer and the film it sources music from. The Grand Finale (the Edward Scissorhands piece used in the trailer) is a piece that gives the listener feelings of hope, sadness, joy and love. Those emotions play into both ES and The Secret Garden, and therefore, the link is viable.

Personally, I think it's an amazing trailer. =)

If you go to the website soundtrack.net/trailers you'll be amazed how rarely they solely use only material from the actual score in the trailer.

Outside scores are used ALL the time.
