So, if I'm not mistaken, that symbolizes her feeling abandoned by her mother at a young age, correct? Does it have any other symbolism? It breaks my heart the way she cries for her mother. :(
It also reflects Colins feeling of abandonment as he cries for his father thus generating the dream. And perhaps its the last time Mary cried before the "spell was broken" at the end scene.
I watched this film after many, many years at the weekend with my three year old and cried my eyes out at this scene! I think it's because the toddler they use in the film is genuinely upset and crying for her Mum! My heart broke and it didn't help that my daughter was saying "Mummy, she's lost her Mummy! She ran away!"
I agree that it's to do with her Mum being neglectful. It's tragic!!:(
