Why was the entire Sandlot gang banned from the swimming pool for what Squints did?

When Squints pulled that stunt on Wendy by forcing her to kiss him, we're told by the narrator (adult Scotty) that they were subsequently banned from that pool. But nobody knew that Squints was playing that stunt. They genuinely thought that he almost drowned just like Wendy. So why were they being punished for what Squints did and did alone? Was it simply a case of "guilt by association"?

Mostly guilty by association, but also the people at the pool didn't know if they knew what was going on before hand. As far as they know it was all a set up and they were in on it. Remember they reacted to Squints in the water first, then Wendy responded. And when they pulled him out, they were surrounding Wendy and Squints and "acting" very concerned.

That was a fun scene. I'm watching this now for the first time. It's pretty good.
