I slowed it down and the sign appears to say "Welcome To Florida", so I don't think she was leaving.

i have seen "ruby in paradise" 3 times over the years, and i totally agree with the very first review of it as being gently quiet, moving picture. i fell in love with ashley judd (as an actress) for her work in this movie. even though i've been disappointed with both her work and choices of projects since (for the most part), it's this movie that i associate her with. and, even though it's "only" a small indie film, like so many small indie films it carries a big wallop. i recommend it heartily (and, it is a "heart" rather than "head," or "body" movie) to any future visitors to this page. i don't know what, or if, victor nunez has directed since making this film...but, because of it, i intend to find out :-)

I took it as a literal reminder of how the movie started. At the end, it shows the sign and perhaps it is to remind each of us, how scary and yet wonderful a new journey can be.

Yes, that's what I thought too....although I had to think about it? I rewound it to make sure I didn't miss the last actual scene. The sign was shown right before the credits.
