I am a huge phillies fan but i always was kinda partial to the Cubs. Mainly becuase in my days growing up, my TV would only broadcast Yankees (HATE THEM), Mets (eh) Phillies, And Cubs games (WGN). I also got to expereince the Harry CArey-STeve Stone days. The main reason i was partical to them is their devoted fans (probably the best second best in baseball (behind the Red Sox). The only two teams that sell out when they are in last place..yes i am even including the cardnials and Yankees. Also, Their long for that championship. As A phillies fan i feel it too (was born in 1984).
My argument is that the you have to have the cardinals. They are the team that comes the closest to "the team to beat" in the National Leauge. Pittsburgh and Dodgers would of been next but they have been in and out since the mid 90's. So having the cards as the team to beat, makes the national leauge unique.
The way i see it, The cubs lost their chance. It looked like Three of the most cursed Franchises in history were set up to win Championships in just three years. But it looks like, Unlike the White sox and Red Sox, They lost their cool when they needed it the most. Blaming the series on a fan who rightfully went for a foul ball. Moise Alou blew that series with his reaction. Oh well.
Cubs....er.....Marlins 03 champs
Red Sox 04 champs
White Sox 05 champs
and..whoops.....Cards 06 champions. Would of been a great 4-year run in baseball history. 4 of the 6 most storied franchises.
