Ask me anything about this movie

Rookie of the year is a highly underrated film. Even though the list of one's favorite movies are amorphous and subject to change with time and perspective, Rookie Of The Year has firmly remained in my all time Top 3 list.

I would be glad to discuss any aspect of the movie. I have read in this message board that many people do not 'get the film,' or even think it's childish. This is probably because they never bothered to watch it a second time and the fact is that once they 'get the movie', they will find that it is nothing but magnificent. I consider 'Rookie Of The Year' to be on par with a movie like 'The Godfather'. Hell, I might even go as far as to say that it's superior.

In my book- best screenplay of all time.

If you have grey areas about the plot or any questions, then I would be glad to help you. I have watched the movie 77 times. And its good enough to be watched 77 times more.

I would have to agree with you AssaultonLogic. Not only did this film revolutionize cinematic storytelling with its spellbinding story line, and its torn characters; but I think the later generation are going to look at this film, and grow from it. I think this is the Citizen Kane of our generation, the fact that modern film makers such as Wes Anderson, Crodenberg, Rami, Tarantino, and Mendes incorporate elements of Rookie of the year to their films is a move in the right direction. I would say Nichols performance in this film would be on the forefront with other greats like DeNiro in Raging Bull, and Guiness in Lawrence of Arabia.

Personally, I was disgusted and appalled that Shindler's List swept The Academy Awards that year, when it was clear that Rookie of the Year would have been the clear winner if not for the Hollywood politicking that kept it from being nominated.

I agree with everything posted on this thread. THIS MOVIE CHANGED MY LIFE IN SO MANY WAYS. When Henry looks at the camera in just about every scene to make some lovely goofy comment, my heart just stops. I feel like he is my friend. As a matter of fact, I have a poster of him in uniform on my wall. And when he puts the glove over his face as the double play is taking place behind him, i grab my baseball mitt and smother my face with it as well. I want to feel everything that he is feeling. And then I slowly remove it from my face to exclaim EHH KEWLL just as he does. It makes me feel splendid. I love this movie and will continue to watch it until I die (and then I want to be buried with at least 769 copies of it).

Ignore the smoke.

Henry puts Ray Charles to shame as well. Not to mention that he was a motor boatin' son of a b.

I have my own story to share. I used to be vehemently against the existence of the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field. Then, I had a spiritual experience with it. I watched it, and all of a sudden, I felt myself be lifted into the air, as if by a magical force, and I was carried to a sporting goods store. Then, a Cubs hat magically floated down from the ceiling and came to rest on my head. As I floated out the door, the clerk said "it's the on the house son!" I then arrived home, and have been a Cubs fan ever since. Thank you Rookie of the Year for ensuring that I will root for a mediocre sports team for the rest of my life! If anyone else has had this spiritual of an experience with this film, we should get together sometime and form our own religion based upon it, with Henry Rowengardner as our head. Who's with me?
