(spoilers)..Why not just BUY a nice NEW boat??

How come Henry didn't just buy a NEW bass boat, for him and his friends??? Or at the VERY least---a new engine!! it is not as if he couldn't have afforded it after all. I understand that most of his money would have been put away for his college and adult life--but hey--25--30k would have bought a NICE little boat, for all of them to enjoy--instead of messing with that broken-down, beat-up boat with an engine ready to die.

I wouldn't have allowed that if I had been Henry's mom. Every bit of that money he was making would be going toward his future and he would not be touching any significant amount of it for anything frivilous as long as I controlled it. Sure, I might have let him use a very small amount of it for a few nice things for himself, such as a new bike, or video game system, but unless it was for something that typical kids his age want, I wouldn't let him blow money on it. No eleven year old kid needs a $25,000 boat, that's not building character, he'd have plenty of time and money to have luxuries like that when he's older.

I agree with jenni_doll_1 about saving up the money. Henry's mom knew that his career wasn't going to last. As a single mom, having that money for him to fall back on later in life is a must.

Besides, it was never about the boat, really. It was about building something with his friends. No brand-new boat would be the same.

There are potholes on the road less traveled....
