You knew the Cubs would find some way to include “Rookie of the Year” into Wrigley Field’s 100th anniversary celebration. After all, the Cubs won the World Series in the 1993 movie.
Thomas Ian Nicholas – who played Henry Rowengartner, a 12-year-old who develops a killer fastball thanks to a freak accident -- will throw out the first pitch and sing the 7th inning stretch during Saturday’s Cubs-Atlanta Braves game at Wrigley. Nicholas is also known for his work in the “American Pie” franchise and will appear in the upcoming Fox drama “Red Band Society.”
He said by email that this will be his fourth time throwing out the first pitch and singing the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley, where he filmed “Rookie of the Year” with director and co-star Daniel Stern and Gary Busey.

Was Busey as eccentric back then as he is now?
“Gary was still pretty crazy back then,” Nicholas said. “Though he was the nicest to me. He once carried me by my underwear across the lunch room in front of 100 cast and crew members... as I mentioned he was the nicest to me.”
Nicholas will perform Saturday with his band, Thomas Nicholas Band, at GMan Tavern. Afterward, he'll celebrate his birthday (which was Thursday) at Vertigo Sky Lounge in the Dana Hotel and Spa.
