Colonoscopy scene
Why we're both Andrew and Miguel so skittish about the idea of Andrew getting a colonoscopy in the hospital?

shareThey weren't as fun back then as today and the camera was the size of a Red One.
Plus the scene establishes Miguel as the "spouse" in the relationship which is probably the main reason for the scene.
uh, is anyone excited about a colonoscopy?

shareI wondered the same thing. Obviously nobody WANTS to get a colonoscopy, but Andrew and Miguel seems particularly nervous when the doctor brings it up.
The doctor in that scene is a bit of a jerk so it's possible he's just suggesting unnecessary procedures because he knows Andrew is gay?
Yes!!! He was a jerk and it was not necessary. They could have done the other stuff to rule out what was wrong, like they did and done the colonoscopy ONLY if they really needed to. They are awful, even today!!!
Wait! Wait! Where are you going? I was gonna make Espresso!
No they are not.
It's a simple 15 minute operation where you are knocked out during the procedure.
I will give you the preparation the day before is the killer!
No cash here!! Here, no cash!!! Cash, no!!!! Robbo? No Cash!
Others here are correct in factoring the invasiveness of a colonoscopy (particularly back then--tended to be done without sedation), and the doctor being a jerk. To add, wanting to do an evasive procedure right out the gate before other tests were done was not appropriate, as Andy and Miguel both thought it seemed premature.
Another issue with this doctor was he was not Andy's real doctor; not an HIV specialist and therefore clearly lacked understanding about the proper path for determining Andy's gastrointestinal symptoms. The colonoscopy probably should have been a test preformed after other testing excluded the cause of symptoms.
evasive procedure? like jumping out of the way? 8)
