Contemporary version?

Has any dance company ever tried a modernized version of this story? Not just with the style of dance, but the storyline and costumes too. Maybe have the dancing toys be video game characters and electronic games? I know theater and opera companies stage contemporary versions of classics like Shakespeare plays and Puccini operas. Why not ballet?

It would be garbage. 90% of the cast would be black/female/gay, and the other 10% would be male and every ethnic group imaginable. The rat king would be played by the only white male dancer allowed. Marie would be helping a female nutcracker, who would turn into a princess and make Marie a princess and hinted love interest too. They'd have rap music and hip-hop as well as bad dancing and music that hurts the ears. It would be "Hamilton" all over again, and nobody outside of the NYC snooty elites would like it.
