Minor spoilers - was Johnny's beating at the end a coincidence?

As in, he fled to London to avoid getting a beating (by the way, its interesting that for his act at the beginning, if it was it, he was only threatened with beating and not a death or even a common legal way - a police arrest) but then he gets a beating anyway in London, but was it a random coincidence, and why did they beat him up?

Also...

Yes they weren't right to do this either. But Johnny wasn't exactly a good guy, so were they that terribly wrong and what is the message here?

Also, did none of Johnny's err female flatmates like Sandra, Sophie and Louise ever suspect him of sexual crimes? And let's say the did find that out...

Would one of them also treat him in a manner similar to how Sharp's "Louise" did with Sebastian/Jeremy at the end by threatening a particular err "violent vengeful act" with a knife or something?

I just assumed the beating was because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, maybe the group who attacked him had been drinking and just thought they’d beat up a homeless looking guy whos walking towards them down a dark alley.

When I first watched it I half expected the brothers of the woman who she threatened him with from the beginning to track him down and make an appearance.

The message is irony. It's a black comedy. He left Manchester to avoid a beating after getting rough with a woman during sex, and ended up getting a beating instead from some people in a random attack.
