....ever anyway, since I think domestic violence is a horrific thing.
But I tell you, I'd never hit a man first even if I wanted to. I mean, how does a woman know he wouldn't turn around and clock you back????!!

How in the world did Laurie know that she wouldn't be spitting her teeth up like a popcorn machine after she hit Ed?!! Crazy and "brave" woman.

It has actually been proven women initiate domestic violence at a slightly greater rate then vice versa with the overall rate being 50/50
A major factor besides television (women beating men on t.v. and the general 98% of all violence on tv being directed toward men) is the fact that women have the option of calling the police and have the man arrested regardless of whether he is guilty or not or even if it was she who did the hitting. Men don't have this option because of the suck it up like a man mentality (in my opiion the greatest form of sexism that does or has ever existed) and the fact that the police and public are more likely to laugh at him than take him seriously. "What did you do to deserve that?"

You must register but here men can say exactly what is on their minds without being labelled a misogyist (within reason of course) and find a lot of evidence to support the ridiculous claims such as 1/4 of all women will be raped in her life time etc.

The reason for all of what you said(which I FULLY agree with, BTW--)

"It seems to be what everyone wants". Women GOOD, men BAD,. Men ALWAYS to blame. no questions--no excuses--it is HIS fault.

And if ANY man utters a WORD about a woman abusing him/belittling him/ hurting him emotionally, he is called a "wuss", fag, #uss#, and other not too nice things.

And keep in mind that a man is NOT allowed to hit a women EVEN IF she is beating him to DEATH. just "stand there and take it, and be a man". Otherwise HE will go to jail.

So men often DO just "suck it up" all too often.

Totally agree and as a "realistic feminist" (i don't want it all, just fairness and equality for woman AND men) it infuriates me that more people don't accept that a man can be abused by a woman. And they seem to have a hard time understanding that abuse doesn't have to be physical - verbal abuse day in and day out is just as damaging mentally as physical abuse.

But it must be noted that the terms "wuss", "weak", "fag" are thrown at male victims of abuse by men by and large... no doubt some women do too but in my experience these labels are put on the victims by their fellow men. In fact a male friend of mine who was being abused by his girlfriend talked to us, his female friends, rather than his male ones as he knew they wouldn't be sympathetic to his situation (glad to say he dumped the b*tch soon after).

That's the thing---it's always assumed that men can't be abused simply because they're the bigger and stronger sex, even though there are men who abuse other men, which also happens.

You have to keep in mind, that not only for decades, but centuries, women were always told that they has to "suck it up" and stay married to abusive men, oftentimes with no legal way out of said marriage. It used to be taken for granted that a man could beat a women whenever he felt like it, because women were considered nothing but property, in places like England back in medieval times, and on up until the late 20th century. Hell, there were even laws here in the U.S. saying that rape in a marriage wasn't even legally considered rape up until the early '80s--when they were finally taken off said books. There was a TV movie made about that too in the late '70s---it was called "Rape and Marriage---The Rideout Case". That being said, physical abuse on the part of either sex is still wrong as hell, either way.

I knew a mentally challenged man who was physically abused by his first wife (she was not mentally challenged). I didn't know him then, I just heard the story much later. Apparently she hit him quite often. It was horrible, he was such a sweet man.
Thankfully he divorced her eventually and married a good and kind woman later on.

Have you ever thought that the men who do the hitting already have been hit?

I don't regard gender to be any excuse and having been on the receiving end of some pretty heavy-hitting women in our martial arts training sessions, I can quite categorically say that women can do some real damage. More so with weapons!

I have to say, if anyone hits me like that, I will hit them back. But that's mostly from my training and not all men are so inclined. When you're unexpectedly swamped by a barrage of blows raining down on you, fear will kick in. Most people will buckle under that.
