I would have been gone after the first slap - if I endured much more of that woman's anger I would have killed her.

There's violence and then there's common sense/self-defence.

As with women, men stay with abusive partners for a wide range of reasons.

You might have been gone after the first slap, but that might say more about how you experience relationships than it does concerning the writing of the film or the character.

Particularly when children are involved, it's a much, much, more complicated situation than you paint it.
