Where did all the Park staff go?

I just saw the movie on cable. In the beginning, there were numerous Park employees, including lab scientists, animal vets, gate guards, chefs, and even janitors.

What happened to them all in the later part of the movie? Were they all flown off the island due to the storm? Then why let the kids stay, I imagine for safety that their grandfather would have had them flown out as well.

I might have just missed a key scene explaining it, but now I'm stuck wondering about this "plot hole." Any insight will be appreciated!

It was the weekend, all staff (except for Muldoon, Arnold and Nedry), returned home on the ship.

There are two announcements made by Arnold on this; the first one you can hear over the intercom as the group enters the laboratory. The second is in the control room after Muldoon received word the storm was heading for the island. Arnold urges everyone to leave right away, as the last vehicles driving to the dock will leave in a few minutes.

My pleasure!

If you watched this movie 300 times like me ,you wouldn't have missed it.

I liked Jurassic park but it has its flaws, this being one of them. Why would you let almost all your staff go home during the biggest weekend for the park as its life and death depends on the success of the tour and positive reaction of the scientists? You would want everyone there and working to make sure no problems arise and if they did, that all bases are covered.

You don't think an incoming hurricane is a good enough reason?

Let's be bad guys.

If it's such a danger then it doesn't seem to make sense why the others stay then. Are they all hurricane proof while the rest of the staff aren't? I never understood why the rest of the staff all had to leave.

It's called "mitigation". Google the word.

Some staff had to stay, these were the logical ones. The visitors however, should have been taken off.

Because some needed to stay to watch the animals. The less people there are, however, the less chance of someone being injured.

You are sin.

reply

Because the group was already on the trip when it was obvious the storm would hit them. They needed to get back before they could get evacuated.

Everything would of been fine if not for Denis.

reply

True. Also it would have added more to the body count.

reply

As far as I can see this is the only major plot hole. Good point.

reply

It's not a plot hole. The park staff all leave on the 7pm boat that night which is before the storm happens.
