1. Jurassic Park (9/10) 2. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (7/10) 3. Jurassic World (5/10) 4. Jurassic Park III (3/10)
I may be in the minority, but for some reason I just didn't find Jurassic World very enjoyable. Maybe I set my expectations too high after hearing it was critically well received.
I. Jurassic Park - 10/10 II The Lost World: Jurassic Park - 10/10 (truth be told I enjoy TLW as much as JP) III. Jurassic World - 6/10 IV. Jurassic Park III - 6/10
JPIII was a slap in the face when I saw it on opening day in 2001, but the years have mellowed my opinion of it a bit. I find it to be in sharp contrast to the thematic atmosphere of the first two films, though; it's basically just the meat and potatoes of JP and literally nothing else. I enjoyed JW in theaters, but I didn't love it. It pandered too hard and muddled the continuity in some small ways (such as Hammond suddenly requesting Masrani open a new park after becoming a naturalist in TLW, etc.). Aside from the rip-roaring ending, my opinion of it takes a hit more or less every time I watch the film. Whereas JPIII tends to leave a bad taste in my mouth, this one doesn't leave much of a taste at all. I can say, though, that JPIII feels more like a JP movie to me than JW did and not just because Dr. Grant was in it. The first three films had a grit to them that the newest one replaced with a slick gloss and it didn't sit well with me after I watched it a few more times (4 in the theater, 2 on Blu-ray).
I would continue this battle of wits with you but I can see that you're unarmed.
JW didn't feel like it belonged to the series. It felt like expanded universe or something. I would have never liked it, but it was also worse because we waited 14 years for it.
