First of all, I love the movie, I loved the book, but I was wondering:
In the book, Jing-Mei's mother, Suyuan, told her that everyone was made up of five elements. There was wood, metal, I believe wind, and some others. She said if you had no wood, people would boss you around, and if you have too much you were stubborn, and other meanings like that. I was wondering if anyone knew all the elements and their meanings.
I think the five elements would be Wood, Water,Metal, Fire and Earth

Too much fire and you had a bad temper.
Too little wood and you bent too quickly to listen to other people's ideas, unable to stand on your own.
Too much water and you flowed in too many directions.
They are the five elements at the heart of Chinese philosophy. Both Confucianism and Taoism include a consideration of them. They are roughly similar to the four elements in Western magical tradition, probably most familiar in the context of astrology (air signs, fire signs, etc.).
A westerner is most likely to encounter the idea of the five elements in discussions or books about feng shui.

According to the almanac, your elements are decided by the time of your birth, and it's actually pretty complicated... I've had my fortune told a couple of times for fun and each time, they tell me I have a lot of wood, that I need to meet someone with a lot of fire in order to burn brightly. My mother, incidentally, has a lot of water and this is why I grew up so well. (LOL, well.)
You have to have it told by someone who's trained in it, and you'll get a whole complicated story about what kind of person you might become, what kind of people you might meet, and why. It's fun, the narratives are interesting, you don't have to believe in them, and usually you're served tea while you're at it.
