But it's what Redford understands and Woody fails to--this movie isn't about sex, and it isn't about love, though those themes are used as vehicles. It is about power and about one man who understands that the finery of ones sexual taste is united most inexorably with their corresponding greatness or smallness of soul, and one man who realizes it all too late.
Even if Woody had stood up and said no, he wouldn't have truly understood why. Allowing it to happen demonstrates his complete misapprehension of the entire act, and his gross realization of what he is compared to Redford is the lesson of the film. That Redford is noble despite his paying to sleep with another man's wife, and that Woody is an animal with no comprehension of the unity of the physical and spiritual is the point.

maybe I am being naive seein as to Im one of the few on this thread that has any decency left in her. I know alll about hardships...trust me....
My mom takes care of us(btw don't bring my age which is 16 to this thread..LIKE THAT MATTERZ...like I dont kno much) and theyre are 7 of us..and she pays all the billz etc etc....so we know what it's like to want a good life..and can't necessarily have that luxury of living the good life..BUT we thank god that we have that much and that we can get by. U dont have to buy ur kidz nice things to be able to take care of them and give them a good life...cuz we dont get all the finer things in life..BUT we make a ok lving...u dont need to be makin 100,000 grand a year to make it ok....if both u and ur wife work..and u only have like 1-2 kidz then u wont be able to complain.....And u certainly DONT need 1mil to get buy in life....

The battle between KingOfCollege and the ditzy blonde was actually quite amusing. I seemed to agree with both of them simultaneously though and still have mixed emotions....I think you and me and everyone knows if its boiled down to it, if your already in luxury I dont think you need to satisfy your hunger for money and probably laugh at the proposition, but if your down and out and going nowhere and the chips are falling one by one slowly, agonizing defeat is staring at you face to face, then your most likely going to accept the offer.

Anyway aside from that, how one person wants to live is up to that person. If a couple wanted to do that and both parties were happy then fine, lucky them. They're responsible for themselves and there's no real right or wrong here.
But if I was made that offer, and my wife (not that I have one) wanted to accept and have sex with him, to me it wouldn't be about the offer, it would be about her wanting to do it. That would be the worst part. Hopefully I'll never marry someone that would want to do it.

right, well you tell me then how i, a 22 yr old with practically no money or work experience can use "hard work" to earn say 200 000 a yr by the time im old enough to be thinking about starting a family. so lets say 8 yrs.
i will be going into a job earning 70 000 a yr, but unfortunately that doesnt quite get me what i want, and certainly doesnt get me that 1 million dollars id otherwise get from the night of sex.
so do enlighten me, how do i go about getting into that upper level of socio economic status without any university degree or contacts in high places.
