Why does Allison start giving Max the time and day come Halloween night?

I mean, Max embarrasses her in front of their class (which in fairness, Max soon apologized for) by handing out his phone number and he in private, makes objectifying remarks about her body ("Max likes your yabbos!") while in bed fantasizing about her. Allison also strikes me as being something of an overachiever and teacher's pet. So it's probably within reason to want to believe that she would see Max as being ignorant, uneducated, and a slacker.

Does Allison in part, "tolerate" Max because she has to see him everyday at school, so it isn't like she could get away from him if she wanted to? Is it because Allison knows that Max is new in town, and is trying to be understanding if an outsider like him isn't knee-deep aware of the culture in Salem? Or is it because Allison simply wants to be nice to Max's little sister, Dani? I guess that there's something strangely adorable about an eight year old girl telling his brother's crush that she has nice boobs.

Max embarrassed himself - first by calling Halloween a "conspiracy by the candy companies" (which Allison corrected him on) then trying to get her number. Even the other guys were telling him he had no shot.

Allison might have given Max her number on the walk home if he wasn't still acting like a turd. Instead, she handed his own note back to him.

Because Max wasn't a jerk at Allison's house as he was in class, and he was being nice to his little sister by taking her Trick or Treating.

Why does Max immediately give Allison his phone number in class? On one end, I can't help but admire Max for his confidence. But still, I don't know what Max thought he could gain from that. Did he think that just because that pretty girl who sits behind him in class actually looked at him and acknowledged something that he said that one time, that must mean that it's suddenly the opportune time to try and hook up with her?

Maybe Max did that as some sort of defense mechanism. Or Max was suddenly turned on by Allison directly schooling him about the true origins of Halloween? It's sort of like that scene in Coming to America where Eddie Murphy's character Prince Akeem tells Arsenio Hall's character that he wants a woman who will arouse his intellect as well as his loins.

Simple - Max thought his laid back tie dyed California coolness would win over an impressionable New Englander. He was wrong. He wasn't the first guy to be wrong about that.
